Dolly de Leon makes history as the first Filipino actor to be nominated for Best Supporting Actress in the Motion Picture category in the 80th Golden Globe Awards.

Nominated in the same category are Angela Bassett for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Kerry Condon for The Banshees of Inisherin, Jamie Lee Curtis for Everything Everywhere All at Once, and Carey Mulligan for She Said.

Prior to the Golden Globe nomination, de Leon also won Best Supporting Performance at the 48th Los Angeles Films Critics Association Awards tied with Ke Huy Quan for Everything Everywhere All at Once. On top of her growing list of international recognition, she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the 27th Satellite Awards.

Triangle of Sadness is a satirical black comedy film directed by Swedish filmmaker Ruben Östlund that won the prestigious Palme D’or at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival. In the film, De Leon plays Abigail the “toilet manager” turned “captain” because of her survival skills when their luxury yacht gets stranded on an island along with elite guests and crew.

“I'm not going to lie—Triangle was the best thing that ever happened to me. It's such a blessing in my career as an actor,” de Leon shared in an interview with Vanity Fair how the film positively influenced her career.

Winners for the 80th Golden Globe Awards will be announced on January 10, 2023, in Beverly Hills, California.
