Nadine Lustre, a 29-year-old Filipina actress, entered the entertainment industry at a relatively young age. At the age of 9, she had already become a TV host on a children-oriented show called Storyland. Three years after, she was given the opportunity to be featured in one of the shows of Disney Channel Asia. Yet, despite her early appearances on national and international television, she was not able to make a name for herself.

Eventually, as if things were going her way, she finally had her big break in the said industry in 2014 when she was offered to take the lead role in Diary ng Panget’s movie adaptation. That movie became a great box-office hit—garnering a total of 115 million pesos—not only because of the story but also because of her acting skills as well.

However, while it was true that the actress was already walking toward her own spotlight, bashers also worked twice as hard to bring her down by calling her “Kathryn Bernardo’s copycat”. According to an article written by Maureen Mari Belmonte for PUSH Magazine, Nadine was aware of the netizens’ negative opinion of her. But she just positively responded by saying, “Well, I can’t do anything about it. I guess, yung tipo ni Kath at yung sa akin, pansinin eh. Pero a lot of people naman are telling me I don’t [look exactly like her]. Siguro in some angles, I don’t. I really don’t bother naman” (2014, para. 2).

The bashing went on for years but because she was true to her words, she did not let that condescending remark limit her from creating her own name in the industry. By continuously accepting and committing to various film projects, television shows, and television series, she gradually rose to her stardom in the Philippine entertainment industry. Not only those, but she was also able to release her own album titled “Wildest Dreams”.

Just last December 2022, Nadine brought home the “Best Actress Award” in Metro Manila Film Fest’s Gabi ng Parangal because of her noteworthy performance in her film “Deleter”. That was her fourth “Best Actress Award” since her debut in the film industry.

Now, she is no longer dubbed as “Kathryn Bernardo’s copycat”. Instead, that insult has been replaced with the title “Multimedia Princess” because of her impact on the country’s entertainment industry even at an early age.
