It is impossible to be on social media and not come across the many funny videos of Sassa Gurl—the iconic trans woman with a discernible heavy layer of blush on her cheeks and her wide gap teeth. She became a trending social media personality because of her witty and funny jokes that undoubtedly entertained many Filipinos. When people were forced to stay inside their homes during lockdowns, she surely cheered everyone up with her comedic skits on Tiktok that are based on the daily lives of Filipinos. From classroom shenanigans to typical Filipino neighborhood scenarios, she made her videos so relatable that it breaks everyone into a fit of laughter with every scene and dialogue.

Sassa Gurl, otherwise called “Mima'' by her millions of fans and followers, is a 26-year-old social media influencer from Quezon City, Philippines. She is a graduate of Far Eastern University with a degree in Communication Arts. After she graduated, she worked as a freelance fashion stylist and as a call center agent. With the salary she got, she used it to buy a secondhand cellphone which became her ticket to stardom. It was in 2020 when her first video on Tiktok had gotten viral and she was gaining many followers. She then quit her job and focused her humor and creativity on becoming a social media star.

Being a child of conservative parents, Sassa Gurl had her share of difficulties in coming to terms with her sexuality. Growing up, she had always known she was gay. But it was during her high school years that she started to dig deep and felt that she was a woman. Years later, she met Ms. Mela Habijan, the Miss Trans Global 2020 winner and content creator who advocates for the LGBTQIA++ community, who validated Sassa’s perception of her sexuality as a transwoman.

Just recently, Sassa became the Calendar Girl for White Castle Whiskey, a well-known liquor brand and she appeared on billboards along EDSA— the first transwoman in the country to achieve such a feat. She was also featured in many entertainment magazines in the country such as Esquire, Preen.ph, and Scout Magazine.

Today, Sassa Gurl is working as a full-time content creator. As of writing, she has 7.2 million followers on Tiktok, 1.7 million followers on Facebook, 524,000 followers on Twitter, 230,000 followers on Youtube, and 205,000 followers on Instagram.
